Hawaii Survival School's custom training adventures are designed for people who want more than a standard session — a full-day, overnight, or multi-day program shaped around your group's experience level, interests, and goals. You choose the duration and the focus. Kap builds the adventure.

Whether you want to master a single skill in depth — primitive fire, jungle navigation, ocean survival — or work through a complete island survival progression over several days, we design the experience from the ground up. No standard curriculum, no fixed schedule.

Custom adventures are available on Oahu and can be arranged on other Hawaiian islands for the right group. Public sessions also available if you prefer to join an existing group.

Adventure Formats

Half-Day Adventure

~4 hours

Our most popular format. An intense, focused training session covering 2–3 core survival skills in depth. Perfect for first-timers, families, and groups who want a full experience without a full day. Includes friction fire and one additional skill of your choice.

Full-Day Immersion

~8 hours

A complete island survival progression — fire, shelter, wild food, tools, and navigation. You'll cook a meal in the jungle, build a functional shelter, and leave with a full foundation of skills. Groups are able to go deeper on each element than in a half-day.

Overnight Survival

24 hours

The full experience. Build your shelter, start your fire from friction, forage and cook wild food, and spend the night in the jungle. Most participants describe the overnight as a turning point — the skills stop being theoretical when your shelter is your only cover.

Multi-Day Program

2–7 days

For groups who want a genuine progression — starting from fundamentals and building toward advanced skills over multiple sessions. Can be combined with Wilderness First Aid certification, ocean survival modules, or a custom curriculum. Contact us to design your program.

What You Can Learn

Friction fire training Hawaii

Friction Fire

Starting fire using a hand drill or bow drill — the same method Hawaiians have used for thousands of years. One of the most demanding and most rewarding survival skills to master.

Jungle shelter building Hawaii

Primitive Shelter

Building a functional shelter from jungle materials — structurally sound enough to sleep in, using only what the forest provides. A team-building exercise as much as a survival skill.

Wild food foraging and cooking Hawaii

Wild Food & Cooking

Identifying, harvesting, and preparing wild edibles specific to Hawaii — traditional island foods that have sustained people here for generations. You'll prepare and eat what you forage.

Island survival tools and bushcraft

Island Tools & Navigation

Improvised tool-making — rope from natural fibers, cutting tools, containers — and navigation in dense tropical jungle without modern aids. Skills that connect you to the land.

Overnight island survival training Hawaii

The Overnight Experience

The overnight is where casual interest becomes genuine skill. When you've built the fire, constructed the shelter, cooked the food, and slept under the canopy you put up — the skills become real in a way they can't from a day session alone.

Available as a private group booking. Not for everyone — but for those who want the real thing, it's the benchmark.
